YORKIETHON 5 RE-CAP!

YORKIETHON 5 took place over the weekend of December 18th – 20th, 2020 and was a big success! The Movie Crypt podcast’s annual 48-hour LIVE marathon to benefit Save A Yorkie Rescue is always THE podcast event of every year as hosts Adam Green, Joe Lynch, and Arwen stay on the air live for 2 straight days with celebrity guests joining them around the clock for live comedy, live music, live script readings, live film commentaries, live interviews, and so much more. This year’s YORKIETHON featured 70 celebrity guests and is on track to ultimately raise $30,000.00 (donations are still trickling in)! With the pandemic devastating so many people’s finances in 2020, we were realistically hoping that YORKIETHON 5 would raise around $15,000.00. However, our audience (our biggest yet- averaging between 8-10,000 live viewers every hour) overwhelmed us with their generosity despite the difficult times we are in.

To date The Movie Crypt podcast’s YORKIETHONs have raised well over $130,000.00 for Save A Yorkie Rescue and helped the non-profit organization save countless abandoned and abused dogs, but this year the event also helped raise the collective spirit of our community by bringing artists from all sides of the industry together to have some much needed fun – all in the name of love. Thank you to our guests (the full list is below) for helping make this our best 2-day long show ever, thank you to our amazing crew who quite literally made the live stream possible, thank you to our friends who donated items for Arwen’s Silent Auction, and especially thank you to everyone around the world who tuned in and donated this year!

Director Dave Parker once again produced the weekend’s centerpiece event- the live reading of Nick Antosca’s un-produced screenplay for FRIDAY THE 13TH 3D, which was originally intended to be the followup to the 2009 remake. Every Yorkiethon has featured a live reading of a screenplay that general audiences have never had a chance to see/read before, whether it be an un-produced script (George A. Romero and Mick Garris’ THE MUMMY, John Sayles’ NIGHT SKIES) or an early draft of a massively popular film that was extremely different from the movie that audiences ultimately saw (Chris Columbus’ GREMLINS and THE GOONIES). For the last 3 YORKIETHONS in a row our dear friend Dave Parker has put together the casts for the Saturday night script reading, shouldering the responsibility of each marathon’s centerpiece segment in an effort to help us with the herculean workload that we face producing a 48-hour live event. Dave has absolutely knocked it out of the park every year, casting a wide array of actors, voice-over professionals, and fellow filmmakers that have brought each script to life for our audience. THANK YOU, Dave! And THANK YOU, Nick for giving your blessing for us to read your fantastic screenplay!

“YORKIETHON 5” DATES AND OFFICIAL POSTER!

THE MOVIE CRYPT podcast announces Yorkiethon 5, the podcast’s fifth annual 48-hour live broadcast to benefit Save A Yorkie Rescue taking place December 18th – 20th, 2020. Filmmakers and co-hosts Adam Green (HATCHET, FROZEN), Joe Lynch (MAYHEM, POINT BLANK) and Arwen the Yorkie will once again be staying on the air live for two days straight in an effort to help save abandoned and abused Yorkshire Terriers.  The annual two day long variety show will feature well over 50 celebrity artists and special guests appearing around the clock and performing live comedy, live music, live film commentaries, live script readings, live special FX/art demonstrations, live interviews, and more. In addition to the non-stop live entertainment, Yorkiethon 5 will once again offer Arwen’s Silent Auction where fans can purchase or bid on donated items such as autographed movie memorabilia, records, artwork, apparel, and so much more with all proceeds going to Save A Yorkie Rescue.

“After such a difficult year we’re more excited than ever for Yorkiethon 5,” says co-host Adam Green. “We’re going to end the dumpster fire that was 2020 on a high note by bringing our community together to save a whole bunch of dogs and we’re going to have a ton of fun doing it.” While the list of artists that appear during each year’s 48 hour Yorkiethon is always kept as a surprise, the hosts are looking at this year’s hurdle of social distancing as something positive. “Normally our mandate has been that all appearing guests during Yorkiethon must be in the studio with us,” says co-host Joe Lynch. “However, with the pandemic eliminating that option, this year we have the opportunity to virtually bring on guests no matter where they happen to be located in the world physically.”

To date THE MOVIE CRYPT’s annual Yorkiethons have raised well over $100,000.00 for the non-profit, volunteer dog Rescue that specializes in rescuing abandoned and abused Yorkshire Terriers.

The live stream for Yorkiethon 5 will be available for all to listen to (and watch during select video segments) on ArieScope.com where links will be provided to either donate money or bid on items in Arwen’s Silent Auction and help Save A Yorkie Rescue.

FULL SIZE (2020)

When a global health crisis forces filmmaker and Halloween enthusiast Adam Green to take a year off from his tradition of giving out full size candy bars to Trick or Treaters, his reputation as the most generous guy in the neighborhood comes back to haunt him.  The coronavirus pandemic may have ruined Halloween for most people in 2020, but ArieScope’s 22nd annual Halloween short film proved that not even a worldwide plague could stop us from celebrating the greatest holiday of the year!

S. Tyler Kitty (2003 – 2020)

ArieScope mourns the loss of “S. Tyler Kitty” who passed away today at the age of 17. “Tyler” and his sister “Perry” were adopted by Adam Green when they were merely 5 weeks old. In June 2003, legendary radio personality Art Laboe found the kittens behind his home in Los Angeles.

Covered in fleas and unable to survive on their own, Art brought the kittens to Melrose La Brea Animal Hospital where veterinarian Dr. Edd Jordan treated them and promised to try and find the pair a good home.

Dr JordanDr. Edd Jordan from Melrose La Brea Animal Hospital.

A frequent customer of The Rainbow Bar & Grill (where Green worked as a DJ at the time), Art mentioned the kittens to Sarah Strandberg (who worked there as a waitress at the time). Long time ArieScope fans know Sarah as “Alix” from the 2003 annual Halloween short film THE REAL WORLD: HOLLYWOOD.

So Art told Sarah who told Adam who in turn went to see Dr. Jordan and wound up adopting the two kittens that would be named “Tyler” and “Perry” after AEROSMITH’s toxic twins Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. When Adam brought them home they were just under 6 weeks old.

Tyler and Perry lived incredible lives being spoiled by Adam. Though much more camera shy then their canine sister “Arwen” (who would not come into the family until 2011), ArieScope fans will remember “Perry” from the 2004 ArieScope Halloween short film MIDNIGHT and “Tyler’s” commanding performance as “Mr. Carruthers” in our 2008 Halloween short film THE TIVO.

Not to mention “Tyler’s” brief appearance in 2017’s SCARY SLEEPOVER “Christmas Special.”

“Tyler” passed away this morning from kidney failure- the same disease that took his sister “Perry” in 2014. He was gently put to sleep by Dr. Jordan in Adam’s arms as they sat together in the very same chair at Melrose La Brea Animal Hospital where he was first placed into Adam’s lap as a 5-week old kitten 17 years earlier.

On social media today Adam posted the following about “Tyler”: Goodnight, my friend. Thank you for 17 wonderful years of unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship. Thank you for sharing some of my happiest days and for watching over me through my darkest nights. I know how hard you fought to try and stay here with me but you can rest now. Until I see you again- sleep well and dream on, Tyler. I love you.
