We are excited to announce the new documentary “FOR THE LOVE OF HALLOWEEN: Celebrating 20 Years of ArieScope Halloween Shorts” coming to ArieScope.com in September!
In October of 1998 Adam Green and Will Barratt quickly threw together a short film called “Columbus Day Weekend” to screen at Green’s traditional Halloween dinner party. As the story goes, the filmmakers needed to come up with a production company name and logo at the last minute just to make the short film’s opening titles feel somewhat legitimate. In a matter of seconds they came up with the name “ArieScope Pictures” (with Green’s birthday being March 31st and Barratt’s being April 2nd they are both Aries) and used an altered version of the Dodge Ram logo from a local Dodge dealership’s cable commercial they were in the process of editing at their day jobs. It was all just a goof and was never meant to be seen by anyone besides that year’s Halloween dinner party guests. Little did they know that they would give birth to an annual tradition that would span two decades and spawn a feature film and television production studio that would become a leader of the indie horror scene. The HATCHET franchise and its iconic villain “Victor Crowley,” 2010’s hit thriller FROZEN, the television sit-com HOLLISTON, original web series’ like “Adam Green’s Scary Sleepover” and “Horrified,” DIGGING UP THE MARROW, CHILLERAMA, SPIRAL, GRACE… it all started with a little “just for fun” Halloween short film. ArieScope may have been born from the love of Halloween but it is our family’s enduring love and loyalty for each other that has made it last.
This feature-length documentary brings together all of the key players from the ArieScope family as they take a long walk down memory lane, celebrate their last 20 years together, and share the candid stories behind the annual Halloween shorts. Premiering in early September, FOR THE LOVE OF HALLOWEEN is the perfect appetizer to get fans ready for the 20th annual ArieScope Halloween short film this October!
